Saturday we went down to San Diego to visit with friends AND to take the girls to see Yo Gabba Gabba Live! We had been telling them all week that they were going to see Foofa and Brobee and the gang for real, but I don't think they really understood.
We took the bus into downtown San Diego and that was an adventure in itself! Here they are patiently waiting. Hats and sweaters courtesy of "grandma glasses".
Here we are outside the Civic Theater.
We were a bit early, but the girls waited very patiently. We had first row balcony seats.
Still waiting! The girls were so interested in the other kids all around us.
When the show started, Rosie was on my lap and the look of wonder on her face was priceless. She spontaneously started clapping and wiggling and it almost brought me to tears.
During intermission the girls were a little antsy. We went to the 5:30 show and they seemed to be getting a little tired.
They showed these awesome slides during intermission.
The first song after they came back was "I Like Bugs," so momma was pretty happy too!
All in all, the show was fun. Poor DJ Lance seemed like he had maybe pulled a hamstring at an earlier show, but he soldiered through like a champ. The show was basically a greatest hits of all the songs and games from the show, so there wasn't much dialogue for the girls to follow, and they recognized all the songs. At the end they sang the "Goodbye" song, so all the kids seemed to understand that the show was over and I didn't see anyone crying on the way out.
When we met back up with our friends afterwards, I asked Amaya to tell them about seeing Brobee. First she said, "Brobee real!" very seriously. Then "Brobee go away, bye bye," in a very sad voice. It was adorable. Pretty sure we'll take them back the next time the show is in town. It was the closest thing to a concert I have seen in a few years now!
