Chickens love grubs

Tomu has been getting a lot of yard work done and that involves some raking of all our bark mulch. In the back yard, he found handfuls of grubs in the mulch. It really is ideal for Scarabaeidae larval growth - if you wanted to rear them on purpose you'd use a decaying wood/leaf mulch substrate. Some of the bigger ones are definitely Cotinis mutabilis, which is the giant emerald green scarab you see flying around in the summer all over LA.

Anyway, enough entomology. The fun part is feeding the grubs to the chickens.

Bertie really needs to get in there. Ernie is a grub hog.
